Accelerate your career and broaden your worldview with a Master of Arts in Applied International Studies (MAAIS) from the University of Washington.
You may choose to complete the MAAIS program in 10 months (full time) or two years (part time). The program is offered by the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, a leading institution of area studies that is located in Seattle, a global center for trade and industry set strategically on the Pacific Rim.
The international affairs arena is changing, reflecting complex economic, political and security influences at work in the world at large. An expanding community of stakeholders is now engaged in tackling critical global challenges. The MAAIS curriculum gives you a solid understanding of this rapidly changing world and a multidisciplinary perspective on the pressing challenges facing international affairs practitioners today. At the same time, the program provides you with a chance to develop and refine your professional skills in public speaking, negotiation, media engagement, risk assessment, policy writing and crisis management and decision making.

In the MAAIS program you'll have the opportunity to engage with some of the region's major players and thought leaders through the Civic Council. The council is made up of corporate, nongovernmental, political and security sector figures from companies and organizations directly impacting the world economy and political climate, and influencing global policy and decision making.
MAAIS Civic Council members – who represent organizations such as Microsoft, Boeing, Starbucks, PATH and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – bring their expertise and diverse perspectives to the MAAIS program through special lectures, field trips, simulations and group projects, offering networking opportunities and helping you stay relevant and current.
